So I got her Mrs. Furball off the laptop in time to post for today.

And the message of today is, put it in a box, like they did here. Maybe some DSL box? Or phone? Probably its getting hot and they want to protect the birds and squirrels from getting burned. Actually I am sure that that is the correct explanation :)

#399 It's not pleasant on Mount Pleasant

Another pic from up on Mount Pleasant. All the pictures from up there are just some snapshots taken with my cell phone camera - not exactly artistic but still catching the gloomy atmosphere of Mount Pleasant.

#398 Abandoned Trailer Park

There are quite a few trailer parks in the area between Ithaca and Dryden. For me as a German the concept of living in a stationary trailer is still a little foreign. This one near Etna is abandoned and looks not very inviting.

While it wasn't too cold in downtown Ithaca the breeze on Mount Pleasant was everything but pleasant. During the time I was up on Mount Pleasant, I didn't see a soul up there. Here's my bike while I was sipping some hot tea.

#394 This is a road - says Google

The abandoned road on Mount Pleasant shown in yesterday's picture turned out to be a little creek flowing down Mount Pleasant in some spots. My bike had a break here and was carried on my shoulder. Somewhat annoying but certainly a memorable bike tour.

I was doing a bike tour following a route I had picked up on Google Maps. Unfortunately the road on Google Maps was not a road in the real world. Actually, the maps on Google are surprisingly bad in the Ithaca area.

#392 These are some serious times

Because it's 11/11 today I figured I'd recycle an old photo from London where I ran the Daily London Photo (No 2) for a while. A came across These Are Some Serious Times yesterday when going through my Picase and still like the photo somehow.

Following yesterday's photo from my daily morning commute up the hill, I figured I might also post this one which is turning the other way but in the same place as the photo yesterday.

#390 House on the ridge - Delta Chi in Cornell

Every morning* when cycling up the hill I will see this house at some point during the ride and think "Darn, you'll have to gain all that height within the next three minutes". That's true because shortly after the spot where the photo is taken I turn right and go up a steep slope to end up near the driveway to that house (which is Delta Chi according to the map).

There is no deep insight in this story. Just this.

* Actually I don't cycle every morning. But often enough.

Franz recently brought some tasty Spritzgebäck to the lab. I was stupid enough to say "That's easy to make". I tried last weekend and it turns out it's not easy at all. Note: It should look like this.

#388 Apple Pie Eating Competition

This is an old photo that hadn't yet had a chance to be seen by the world. It's from the Apple Harvest Festival in Ithaca. These people do exactly what they seem to be doing: Eating apple pie. Loads of it.

At the Ithaca Apple Harvest Festival there was also the Hilby the Skinny German Juggler Boy as well as this uber-cool drummer.

Franz recently complained about the apples from around here being too small and too expensive. He should check out Aldi, they have apples from Cortland at very competitive prices - and they are big too.

These ones here are from even closer, though I forget where exactly it was somewhere right at Lake Cayuga.
