Thursday, October 29, 2009#379 Stop it!Some Germany trivia: Since the reformation of German writing (about a decade ago) the word "(to) stop" is writting "Stopp" in German. This had no effect on the stop signs though. This stop sign is taken near the Science Center in Ithaca and has a halo because the photographer (me) cleverly hid the sun behind it. |

Sunday, October 25, 2009#375 Cat hiding in packagin materialsToday's amazing Ithaca Daily Photo: An Ithaca cat hiding in some packagin materials. Come again tomorrow to see more amazing great mind-boggling photos from our crazy little town! |
Saturday, October 24, 2009#374 More P&C GraffitiThis graffiti (still at the back wall of our local P&C) shows a family who are eating food they bought at P&C. Because of the special charm of this store they are deeply depressed now. |
Friday, October 23, 2009#373 Shopping Carts & SunWhat you can see here is a graffiti at the back wall of our local P&C grocery store (which is totally creepy). What's funny is that this graffiti has graffiti on it. The abandoned shopping carts show that P&C neither makes you put a coin into your cart that you get back on return (like ALDI), nor do they employ "Helping Hands" to bring the carts back (like Wegmans). |

Saturday, October 17, 2009#367 CellarThe wine cellar of Wagner winery at Lake Seneca. Wagner is a supersized very super-commercial winery where you can find super-drunk people falling head ahead into hedges. |
Friday, October 16, 2009#366 ColorsColorful flowers. Yes, my dear English friends. That's how far assimilation has progressed. Writing color as colour is merely a thing of the past for me now...

Thursday, October 15, 2009#365 PumpkinsSince this post is number 365 one would think that we have been blogging for an entire year now. But not so. Looking back shows that our first post was on October 25. We are as confused by this as you are, dear reader. Here are some pumpkins to get over it. |
Wednesday, October 14, 2009#364 Pinot Noir @ Lake SenecaThe wine experts amongst our readers knew it already: Yesterday's picture showed a few Pinot Noir grapes. |

Saturday, October 10, 2009#360 Lafayette WineryI think this is a photo taken at Lafayette Winery but I am not entirely sure. Whichever winery it is, it is located at Lake Seneca and had some stunning vistas over the vineyards and the lake. This is a very rural area, Watkins Glen is the next closest village. While being known for its famous raceway, it still is only a village with population of a few hundred. And Watkins Glen is the biggest settlement in the entire county I believe (Schuyler County). Anyways, we had a very nice day over there. The clouds tore open every now and then giving a great chance to take some snaps of beautiful lightscapes over the lake. That's probably what this lady on the balcony is doing. |
Friday, October 9, 2009#359 Seasonal Use HighwayOur littel car convoy driving on the "seasonal use highway" mentioned yesterday. Needless to say, that you need to clean your car after this. |
Thursday, October 8, 2009#359 Look at that"Is this really where the GPS wants us to go?" Out in the countryside there are many seasonal use highways - essentially single lane gravel roads through the woods. Of course, the GPS knows about them. |
Wednesday, October 7, 2009#358 Fall FoliageThis photo is taken on the drive over to Seneca Lake. This is the sort of shot that characterizes the Finger Lakes region during fall very well (I think so anyway). |
Tuesday, October 6, 2009#357 Amerciana Winery (4)A final shot of the nice deco at Americana Winery. We'll be back to get some more wine and fudge (!) in the near future.
|
Monday, October 5, 2009#356 Americana Winery (3)The vineyards of Americana Winery got damaged beyond repair when the previous owner fell ill and couldn't take care of the winery. The new owner therefore had no chance but grow their wine somewhere else (some spot closer to Seneca Lake). They are working on growing back the old vineyards right next to the historically restored winery building.

Sunday, October 4, 2009#355 Amerciana Winery (2)These grave stones welcome you at the parking space of Americana Winery. Looking closer reveals that this is not where previous owners are buried but actually a form of humor. |
Saturday, October 3, 2009#354 Americana WineryWe headed out for a nice wine tour the other day visiting a few wineries in the area. One of our favorites is Americana close to Lake Cayuga ("our" lake). |

Thursday, October 1, 2009#352 Fun Slide @ Apple FestDuring the Apple Fest weekend here in Ithaca two children hat tons of fun on the Fun Slide. All the others found the idea of sliding down a plastic thing on a truck trailer pretty boring and walked past to see Hilby the Skinny German Juggler Boy.
