Wednesday, December 30, 2009#441 The VIPThis gentlemen is the veryiest important person (VIP) on the pitch. You know how curling works? You try to get close to the puck thing. On the Rutabaga curl you try to get close to the traffic cone. Our VIP's job was it to stop the Rutabagas of those people whose face he liked most right next to the traffic cone (hence they won). Stay tuned for more Rutabaga goodness tomorrow here on the Daily Ithaca Photo Blog.

Tuesday, December 29, 2009#440 The anthem! Please stand up for the anthem! Someone composed a special Rutabaga Curl anthem (listen in MP3 format). Did you know that the Rutabaga Curl is an international event with its own website AND wikipedia entry? That proves once again what an internationally important city we are! But seriously: Listen to the Rutabaga hymn.

Sunday, December 27, 2009#438 The judgesAnd here come the judges/referees of the Rutabaga Curl! Do you remember the guy towering above all the mortals? It's Hilby the German Juggler Boy! You've met him before on this blog and we have become big big fans of him. Check out his website or this youtube video of him. Isn't he cute in his Lederhosen? He was homeschooled until his mom found out about it. |

Sunday, December 6, 2009#417 A snowrabbitThe day after. I guess this was supposed to be a snowman, but you have to admit, it rather looks like a rabbit that's been poked with a stick. Poor thing.

Thursday, December 3, 2009#414 Xmas DecorationSome Xmas decoration on Buffalo Street. Some deluded people argue that Xmas takes the Christ out of Christmas. Of course that just shows a lack of education. |

Tuesday, December 1, 2009#412 No Frack!Big Oil and New York State decided to drill for natural gas under Ithaca (or somewhere near there). Check here. Because there isn't really gas around here they need to beat up the ground to hand over the gas that is dissolved in the porous rocks. That's called fracture drilling and said to be unsafe for the drinking water. Hence a big "No Frack" opposition has formed who is very present through these signs in every other front yard around town. |
