Big Oil and New York State decided to drill for natural gas under Ithaca (or somewhere near there). Check here. Because there isn't really gas around here they need to beat up the ground to hand over the gas that is dissolved in the porous rocks. That's called fracture drilling and said to be unsafe for the drinking water. Hence a big "No Frack" opposition has formed who is very present through these signs in every other front yard around town.
