And finally they can swin again and don't have to lie on the cold ice and walk all the time. The algae below the water surface for sure hold a lot of food for them.

Monday, April 13, 2009#171 What is this bird?Hallo Opa! Ich habe jetzt die ganze Woche keine Amseln in Ithaca gesehen (vielleicht gibt's die hier wirklich nicht), dafür aber ziemlich viele von denen hier. Weißt du, was das ist? Grüße, Jonas For our English speaking readers: Hi Grandpa, I haven't seen any blackbirds in Ithaca all week long (maybe they just don't exist here). Instead I spotted a lot of these ones. Do you know what species they are? Jonas |
Sunday, April 12, 2009#170 Squirrels...scary when you see them closeSince this one was so brave, as mentioned 2 days ago, we could very close, and I have to admit, it lookes a little scary! You want to know another secret? : They are not so cute anymore if you see hundreds of them every day runnning aroung. |
Saturday, April 11, 2009#169 Ithaca is colorfulEven the pols in the parking lot, which are supposed to prevent cars from driving into pedestrian walkways, are high-end design products. The striking red color makes a beautiful match with the bright yellow stripes. So Ithaca is colorful, not only by nature, but also by design. ;-)

Monday, April 6, 2009#164 They will rip open our streetThis was in our letter box this week. We are looking forward to weeks upon weeks of waking up to the joyful sounds of busy workers digging up our street. Luckily the power lines are above ground here in America so the digger drivers will have less chances to cut our power supply. They might hit water though. Or oil. |
Sunday, April 5, 2009#163 Rules of the Road @ CornellI have to confess something. I rode my bike on the sidewalk. I also parked on campus (in a parking lot that is) at 3am in December (to hand in a prelim). |
Saturday, April 4, 2009#162 Hughes Hall @ CornellHughes Hall is a residence building on Cornell campus that allows law school students to get to school without ever getting close to the fresh air. |
Friday, April 3, 2009#161 Bull RidingAre you a local? Prove your knowledge of the Ithaca streetscape by hazarding a guess where this graffiti can be found in Ithaca. |
Thursday, April 2, 2009#160 Evening ColorsEvening light on Cornell Campus. Red on the left from Kimball Hall, yellow in the middle from Upson Hall and red on the right again from the nuclear plants. |
