Ithaca has a railway through parts of town. There is only a slow cargo train going through that keeps blowing its horn loudly so there is no danger of being run over when crossing the rails. Today, since it's the first day of the new year the railway tracks are a nice metaphor for where we (and the world and the universum and your neighbor, you know what I mean) are heading next year.
