#128 Proof: Ithaca's population size is greater than 10

 

During the Chili Fest we were surprised to find out that there are indeed more than 10 people living in Ithaca.

You might wonder why every other Chili was already eaten, but they still had some left... This is because the Cayuga Nature Center's Chili was protected obediently by the fellow in this picture. You have to admit, he looks pretty scary...

#126 The last Chili standing

Of course we had to go to the annual Ithaca Chili Cook-off in the commons and enjoy various Chili's prepared by the local restaurants. This was one of the last places, that still had Chilli and it was placed 2nd by the official judges.

Actually, it's called Schoellkopf Stadium but it sounds just as if it was written Schöllkopf.

#124 Same Lake, different light

We skied a number eight route so we passed the same lake that was in yesterday's photo a few hours later when the sun was getting close to going down. Ans while Buffalo had snow storms last week, Ithaca was blessed with some really nice winter weather.

#119 Clock tower looking spooky

Right after sunset the sky looked blue and gloomy. The tree and the clock tower (that was actually playing its jingle when I took this picture) make this impression even stronger.

Not to be mixed up with Bartels Hall, Barton hall looks especially nice during sunset, when the top windows reflect the warm orange glow of the setting sun.

#117 Clinton House

I was surprised at first but than realized that the Clinton's are not really living here. It is a beautiful house though, in the center of Ithaca to which I had never payed attention to.

So if you now why this house is called Clinton House, please comment!

#116 Looks like spring, feels like winter

During last week the temperatures went up high here in Ithaca and only last Friday the thermometer dropped back to winter again. It has snowed a little in Ithaca, but not enough to go cross-country skiing. So we went to Yellow Barn State Forrest where it had snowed several times during the past week.

The sun was great and in downtown Ithaca it was fairly "warm", however we were caught cold in the shadows of the woods, where the sun couldn't reach us.

#115 Always uphill!

This is the perspective I have most of the time when walking anywhere in Ithaca. Up the hill! Again I have to get uphill somewhere. I am sure, here in Ithaca you have to go more uphill than downhill. The rules of physics just don't apply here.

I think there is nothing more to say for today, and I still have to "climb" that hill, and 10 other.

#113 Ice is melting

It's not the poles, but a lot of water is melting right now here in Ithaca. But on the weekend we are expected to get some snow again, says the weather forecast. Question of the day: Can we trust it?

On that topic: 

I recently learned the term "Ithacast" from my cross country skiing instructor Rob. Ithacast is the dominating weather condition during Ithaca winters and also the top reason for having the winter blues in Ithaca.

#111 Spring in Ithaca?

The temperatures are rising, the snow is melting, but it is only February. Is spring comming really so soon? All the locals had said that this months will be the worst, in terms of snow and temperature, but maybe this year is special. 

So we wait and see whether we can actually go on the planned cross-country skiing trip this Sunday.

And in case you were wondering: We went skiing yesterday. We found the last remaining patch of snow near Ithaca somewhere in the Connecticut Hill area.

#104 "There is a light rising for me"

You might wonder about the strange title today, and that it doesn't make any sense. Well again we have been driven by our german routes and translated a german saying word for word into english.
"Da geht mir ein Licht auf" means that you got a good idea, or understood something and the light is symbolizing this process.
This, I think, is one of the nicest lights in Cornell "that can rise for you".

You are wonderng what will happen to you when you touch it? You will feel like on a trip, see weird colors and pictures. But since its only an optic cable you wont hear anything!
