Friday, October 31, 2008#8 It's HalloweenErnie and Bert came all the way to Ithaca to celebrate with us. What's even better is the temperature, an unexpected rise made 2 layer of clothes sufficient, as those two chaps demonstrate. Let's see how many treats we have to give tonight. |
Thursday, October 30, 2008#7 Autumn camouflageWhoever invented the word "Indian summer" must have thought of Ithaca. The leaves have all sorts of colors and from the top of the hill it just looks stunning. This is a house around the corner from where we live and it just looks really beautiful with all the shades of red. Hopefully autumn will last a little longer so we can bring you more photos like this one before everything turns white. |

Tuesday, October 28, 2008#5 Butterfly roomAfter resisting the cookie temptation we made our way to the butterfly room where many many butterflies were buzzing around. They would sit on you fingers or try to get into your nose while taking a picture. Apart from the living ones we could also get a glance at Cornell's collection of colorful preserved butterflies. Interestingly the glass drawers where preserved butterflies are kept (all over the world) were invented by Comstock, a Cornell researcher. All in all we really had a bunch of fun at the Insectopalooza! |
Monday, October 27, 2008#4 InsectapaloozaYesterday Cornell's fifth annual Insectapalooza (yes that's how it is called) took place. All kinds of spiders, scorpions and cockroaches were exhibited. We mixed among the very young guests and apparently they had agreed on a dress-code beforehand: orange! Apart from looking at really hairy spiders or really fat millipedes you could also eat cookies with bugs or get a bug-collection starters kit. (more photos to come) |
Sunday, October 26, 2008#3 Bookfair Ithaca - Simply DivineTomorrow is the last day of the US's third biggest second hand book sale. All year long people donated over 250,000 books and the Friends of the Library now sell them. On the first weekend (three weeks ago) they went for $4.50 for hardcovers and $3 for paperbacks, now we are down to a mere $0.10 per book. The proceeds go toward Ithaca's library (which I should really become a member of). |
Saturday, October 25, 2008#2 The Ithaca FallsIthaca is quite a beautiful spot. One of the features of the landscape are steep slopes as well as the waterfalls. These are the Ithaca falls which are the biggest water falls inside the city bounds. |
#1 This is IthacaWelcome to the new Ithaca Daily Photo website. This website is a daily-photo-blog of a small (but great!) town in upstate New York. Check out dailycityphoto.com for more info about the daily photo idea and photos of places from around the world. The two bloggers who plan on bringing a photo of Ithaca to your screen every day are Conny and Jonas. Jonas is a photo blog veteran who previously ran TheDailyLondonPhoto (there is another London Daily Photo which is still running). |
